Thou shalt not murder

Maarten:

This site is getting quite complex, so I'm sure you were unaware this issue has already been addressed in the discussion to the sixth commandment and also in the footnotes to Reflection 7.

It is a valid point. Even though the version of the 10 commandments which most people are familiar with has "Thou shalt not kill" as the sixth commandment, the vast majority implicitly interpret it as if it was "Thou shalt not murder."

But as I have written in the links above, murder is culturally dependent. And as you note, little biblical guidance is available for what is considered murder.

I expect to follow up on this issue in Reflections on Ethics next month.
